Product Description Only a bumbling bank janitor like know-it-all knucklehead Ernest P. Worrell (Emmy(R) Award-winning comedian Jim Varney) could serve on jury duty and wind up serving time -- in the slammer! The laughs start when a crooked lawyer discovers that Ernest is a dead ringer for his crime-boss client ... and before you can say "Framed!" -- the switch is on! While Ernest is behind bars trying to fit in and break out, he manages to turn the big house into a nuthouse full of big laughs. Meanwhile, his evil double is busy taking his place at the bank and in his girlfriend's life! Full of comic inventiveness, a wacky cast of characters, and slam-bang special effects, ERNEST GOES TO JAIL is guilty of maximum fun in the first degree!

Ernest! Ernest! Ernest! December 10, 2001 Alexander S. Meyer (Laredo Texas) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Jim Varney in one of his best misadventures! The story-line is absolutely hysterical...Jim Carrey and the young Jerry Lewis couldn't have done it better!Critics take note..there is no such thing as "low-brow" comedy..educated people call it slapstick, and not everyone can do it well. Jim Varney had a "gift", and he knew how to use it...combining this original story with his personality and antics resulted in a gut busting FUNNY film. I have seen countless great comedies that run the gamut, from The Stooges to Woody Allen. "Ernest Goes To Jail" is right up there with the best comdeies you could own! Too bad it's not on DVD. Even Walt Disney would have approved!
Absolutly the best Ernest film! August 8, 2000 David Rogers (Emmett, ID, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the greatest Ernest film of all time! I couldn't care less of what Leanard Maltin says. If he thinks you IQ has to be lower than 12 to enjoy this movie, then my IQ is lower than 12 (but how would you explain my A in Algebra?). This and Ernest Saves Christmas are the best of the Ernest movies! They are fun for all ages (and IQs)! Too bad Jim Varney had to die. I guess all those electric shocks that turned him into "Ernest P. Worrell, Electroman" finally kicked in, and my he rest in peace.
Ernest P. Worrell: Electroman May 9, 2002 Chris Fannin (Carrollton, GA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This movie is non-stop laughs. I have seen it many times. My wife had never seen it, so I rented it for her. We both were cracking up. There are so many memorable scenes: The floor polisher/buffer at the bank, the incident in the jury box, the practicing to be Nash (ROFL), the soap carving (just watch the movie).. and who can forget ELECTROMAN! This is a must-see for anyone who has a sense of humor. I can't wait to add it to my movie collection.
brilliant and executed out in style February 24, 2005 DSG (Franklin, Wisconsin) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Jim Varney is clever. he's really hilarious in this one. cuz he gets into a situation he didn't want to be a part of. tries to get out. causes mayhem. makes friends. stops the bad guys. and still is the idiot he started out as. if there's one thing I got from this movie I have on dvd. it's that even idiots can save the day. so don't ever doubt an idiot you know. he or she might be the one that saves your life some day. brilliant script. funny as nails movie. great actors and actresses.

This is a great Ernest movie. It is perfect for the Ernest fan. Ernest is sent to jail when a man makes him take his spot. This is hillarious, how will Ernest escape? You have to watch it to find out.
