Rambo Trilogy: Ultimate Edition November 24, 2005 Cletus Tremaine (Seattle,WA USA)) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
and they mean Ultimate when they say so.
I had recently learned of the redicuolous marketing for these movies, and that's the typical DVD company for you. But because of the bad reviews, is only the die hard fan's problems, not yours. This is only because die hard fans had obviously bought the first box set released, then companys decided to make another for the sake of better special features, and other suspicious reasons. This gave fans who had the older set the urge to buy the next one, and probably sell off the other. But this is when the companys have the chance to release one more on the fans and new comers alike. This enables them to make money off of people buying and rebuying these DVD sets, and it works. Their loyalty isn't to you, THEY'RE A BUSINESS, they are there to get paid like everyone else wants to.
What my real point is however, is that this is a no problemo situation for ones that have not wasted their time with the older sets at their release dates. The other sets are good, and have their pros and cons. But to me, the Ultimate edition packs the least amount of cons, and is for a fact, THEE Ultimate collection. Why? Here is why I think so.
Special Features:
Aspect Ratio: Letter box 2:35 (Perfect widescreen)
Special commentary by Sylvester Stallone on First Blood only, other Rambo sequels have commentaries by the Directors (YES!)
First Blood, Rambo III, Deleted scenes (Very good)
First Blood, features alternate suicide ending (What a find!)
And a Meta vision: So called to expand your viewing capability of the films (Interesting)
And more!
Overall: I love the final Rambo collection. I shall continue to be entertained and blown away by these films, as they will remain a remarkable franchise.
(Thank you, to Sylvester Stallone)
and remember fans, Rambo 4 is coming this year 2006
RAMBO TRILOGY ROCKS July 12, 2007 Saleem Chaku (Saudia Arabia) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Rambo Series HAs been All time favourite of Mine... This Ultimate Edition is must to have for every Die Hard Fan of RAMBO. The Extras in First Blood & Rambo 3 are Decent but i think the Survival Mode is Little bit Childish, it would have been more Good if they had put some Behind the scenes instead of Survival Mode. Overall This Trilogy Pack is the best money can buy.
Thanks a million. August 4, 2006 Vince Vega 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This DVD was exactly what I expected, plus some neat bonus features. If you're looking for the complete Rambo series for a great price, look no further.
A GUILTY PLEASURE September 4, 2005 bloodfeast138 (Melbourne,Australia) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
It's violent, has a bodycount that has to be seen to be believed(Freddy and Jason ain't got nothing on John Rambo)an over the top series of films with a simplistic view of the world and every fibre of my being tells me intellectually I should be above such tacky 80s hollywood action fare but goddamitt I love it!!
To be fair First Blood wasn't really a hollywood actioner and was quite a well told story with an almost indepedent movie feel to it for the time (and no when i say independent i don't mean like napolean dynamite i mean in the 80s there were a lot of smaller films distributed a majority being of the horror/action persuasion though the action is generally more gory in these films and has nothing to do with two mismatched cops going to foil some bad guys)
What John Rambo doesn't put into words he puts into his highly violent survival expertise, speaking of words it was with great nostalgia that I watched the second Rambo film as I watched this as a kid in the 80s on video(I had to get my cousin to hire it out for me because of the rating) my main interest being sparked when someone told me that Rambo mutters something along the lines of 11 words and kills something like 27 people
I still don't quite know if this is true or not as it's a bit ghoulish pausing each kill scene and counting this is more the sort of pastime for someone about to climb a clocktower with a rifle.
It's still great fun even if you don't read "Guns and Ammo" magazine.
Poor Rambo III has fallen victim to everchanging world events and while a good movie at the time, who could ever forget Rambo on that horse with the big Russian helicopter coming after him?,sadly it's just too uncomfortable nowadays with 9/11,Bali,Madrid and London too watch Rambo fighing side by side with the
mujhadeen no matter how good his intentions were.
Overall though this boxset is a fantastic guilty pleasure I'd reccommend to anyone(except that guy about to climb the climb the clocktower with a rifle!!)
Greatest action hero of all time... June 20, 2005 perfecto (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) If Rocky was the movie that introduced the world to Sylvester Stallone, Rambo is the movie that sealed his fate as an international superstar. Rambo, to me is by far the greatest action hero that Hollywood has conjured. He is brutal, yet his pains are caused by torments from the Vietnam War. Where Rocky was good until Rocky 2, the whole Rambo series was really fun for me. First, a brief introduction to the movies.
In Rambo: First Blood, we see John Rambo, a Vietnam war vet trying to live a civilian life. At the time, many of United States' soldiers who fought in the war were considered evil and heartless. Many citizens felt that the war was unnecessary, that it was not our fight. We see Rambo go to a quiet town to grab a bite, but is pushed around by the local police. When in prison, he is bullied by officers of the law, Rambo starts to have delusions about his time in Vietnam and he makes his move. He attacks the officers and escapes into a jungle. The story ensues...
In Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rambo is doing time in prison. He is called by his friend, Col. Trautman to go on a mission. To scour the enemy camp in Vietnam to make sure there are no P.O.W's held in captivity. It is supposed to be a basic mission that involves no hostility but of course, Rambo takes things into his own hands and things go awry.
In Rambo: Part III, Rambo is approached by Col. Trautman to accompany him and a number of his men to infiltrate the Russian camp in Afghanistan. The U.S. was on friendly terms with the Afghan people and they provided them with weapons and other services to ensure their freedom from the Russians. As expected, things go bad for Col. Trautman and he is held prisoner in the Russian camp by some really nasty dudes. Rambo, being the noble guy that he is, goes to Afghan to do a whole lot of a$$-kicking to save Col. Trautman.
What makes the whole Rambo series highly entertaining is Sylvester Stallone, there's no doubt about it. The stories are predictable but they are executed so well, it's just a whole lot of fun. The thing that has made me always prefer Sly to Arny is that Stallone's movies have emotion. You feel for the characters he plays. When you see Rambo and the things he goes through, your heart really goes out for the guy. You then realize, he's not just some macho bad-a$$...he's a guy trying to escape his past, he wants something better for himself but his past always catches up to him. And many times, the situation calls for it and not vice versa. And the fact that this guy very skillfully plans his attacks and devices a gameplan makes the movie that much better. It's not all brawn and no brain. Richard Crenna's character, Col. Trautman is nothing to shout about. He has a fatherly figure in the Rambo series, someone that Rambo trusts and can always count on. He also usually threatens enemies about how dangerous Rambo is, how he's going to kill anyone that gets in the way, etc...I'm sure you get the picture, but it's still a pretty decent character.
In short, you've got to get this DVD set. Rambo is one of those classic movies, not only in terms of action but in it's spirit and gusto. I am mesmerized everytime I watch it. To end my review, I would like to quote one of my favourite lines from the movie.
Col. Trautman: The war, the whole conflict may have been wrong but damn it don't hate your country for it.
Rambo: Hate? I'd die for it.
Col. Trautman: Then what is it that you want?
Rambo: I want, what they want, and every other guy who came over here and spilled his guts and gave everything he had, wants! For our country to love us as much as we love it! That's what I want!
Folks, this is a must-buy. Highly recommended!
